Village Point Park Preserve
The property is home to “The Village” archeological site and historic Jackson’s Oak, one of Alabama’s largest and most historic live oaks, in addition to other state and national award-winning trees. Jackson’s Oak measures 95 feet tall with a circumference of 28 feet. According to locals, the tree got its name because General Andrew Jackson made a speech to his army from one of its massive limbs while en route from Pensacola during the War of 1812. The Village also includes the historic D’Olive Cemetery, a burial site that dates back to the early 1800s. Here you can see several headstones of early pioneers with French inscriptions. The Preserve is a stop along the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail.
