Battle House
The current Battle House was built in 1908, replacing an earlier hotel that opened in 1852 but burned down in 1905. It original hotel was built by James Battle and his two half-nephews on the site of Andrew Jackson’s military headquarters during the war of 1812. Throughout its history, Battle House has served as a gathering place for high society and a stopover for American dignitaries and statesmen such as Senator Henry Clay, General Winfield Scott, Oscar Wilde, and Senator and presidential candidate Stephen A. Douglas spent Election Night at the hotel in 1860. Additionally, two U.S. presidents have stayed at Battle House: Millard Fillmore and Woodrow Wilson.
The hotel offers spa services, a tennis court, fitness center and outdoor pool.
