Splinter Hill Bog Preserve
Located at the headwaters of the Perdido River in Baldwin County, Splinter Hill Bog Preserve encompasses 627 acres of longleaf pine and bog habitat. It is home to more than 12 species of carnivorous plants including five species of pitcher plants, two species of butterworts and several species of sundews. Much of the site is covered by some of the largest and most visually impressive white-topped pitcher plant bogs in the world. The peak of the pitcher plant blooming season is July through August, but early spring offers visitors a variety of other flowering plants to observe. This is one of the stops on the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail and offers birders some of the best wildlife viewing in southern Alabama. The Preserve has 4.3 miles of multi-use trail that goes through much of the bog.
